Funding Support
Accessing mental health support should be simple and accessible. Through Jordan’s Principle funding, eligible First Nations children and youth in Ontario may receive support for therapy and wellness services tailored to their unique needs.
Eligible First Nations and Inuit clients can also learn about NIHB mental health counselling benefits.
Jordan’s Principle
Jordan’s Principle ensures First Nations children receive the products, services, and supports they need without delays caused by jurisdictional disagreements. This includes access to health and mental health services such as counselling and psychotherapy when approved through the program.
At Therapedia Centre, we help families understand their options and connect with appropriate therapeutic support.

Jordan’s Principle is available to eligible First Nations children under the age of majority who permanently live in Canada. A child may qualify if they are registered or eligible to be registered under the Indian Act, have a parent or guardian who is registered or eligible, are recognized by their First Nation for Jordan’s Principle, or ordinarily live on reserve. Eligibility is determined based on each child’s circumstances.
Yes. Jordan’s Principle can support eligible health, social, and educational needs, including mental health services. Depending on the child’s needs and the approved request, this may include psychotherapy, counselling, trauma support, ADHD-related support, treatment planning, and ongoing therapeutic care.
Approved Jordan’s Principle services may be funded directly so families do not have to manage the full cost themselves. How payment is handled depends on the approved funding arrangement, so Therapedia Centre can help confirm the process before therapy begins.
Requests generally require information confirming the child’s eligibility and details explaining how the requested therapy or support relates to the child’s specific health, social, or educational needs. Supporting documentation from an appropriate professional may also be required.
Start by contacting Therapedia Centre and sharing the type of support your child needs. Our team can help you understand the therapy options and what information may be required. The Jordan’s Principle request is then submitted for review, and therapy can begin once the appropriate funding or authorization is confirmed.
